DutchLine Waste – Fixed Waste 5/4 – Gunmetal

A fixed basin waste in gunmetal is the right choice when you want an open waste outlet without a click mechanism, and wish to carry the finish of your tap or accessories through to the basin. The DutchLine HF1093-GM is a fixed waste with a 5/4-inch connection, constructed in brass with a gunmetal coating. It is suitable for basins without an overflow only.

Is this product right for you?

This fixed waste works well with a freestanding or countertop basin that has no overflow hole. The 5/4-inch size connects to standard waste pipes, so in most bathrooms no additional adaption is required. Gunmetal suits an industrial or dark bathroom aesthetic and coordinates directly with gunmetal basin mixer taps and towel holders for a consistent look throughout.

If your basin does have an overflow, this model is not suitable. A fixed waste allows water to drain continuously, so it is also not intended for use when you wish to retain water in the basin. In that case, choose a click-clack waste or a plug.

Installation and use

The most common mistake when fitting a fixed waste is forgetting to fit the rubber sealing washer, or not tightening it sufficiently, causing a leak between the waste and the basin bowl. Hand-tighten the back-nut firmly, then use no more than half a turn with pliers to avoid damaging the brass body. Always check that the seal remains dry all around after the first water test.

What is the difference between a fixed waste and a click-clack waste?

A fixed waste has no moving closing mechanism: water always drains away immediately and you cannot retain water in the basin. A click-clack waste has a push-button that opens or closes the waste outlet. Choose a fixed waste if you never need to retain water and want as little maintenance as possible.

Will the 5/4-inch connection fit my existing trap?

5/4 inch (approximately 32 mm) is the most common waste size for basins and fits virtually all standard traps. If in doubt, check the internal diameter of your current waste outlet or the specifications of your trap before ordering.

Does the gunmetal finish hold up well with daily use?

The coating is applied over a brass core, making it resistant to moisture and normal everyday use. Clean the waste with a soft cloth and avoid abrasive cleaning products, which can damage the coating and cause the colour to fade.
